The first Opel car made entirely in-house appeared in 1906. It eventually became GM's European arm (Vauxhall, of course, represented GM in Britain), and eventually Vauxhall and Opels became the same thing aside from some badges. For a time, however, Vauxhall and Opels were separate entities, which is whey many UK drivers remember the Opel Manta fondly.
