Mazda burst on to the manufacturing scene in 1920, but didn't start making vehicles until 1931. The firm took a great interest in rotary engines in the Sixties, which later led to such automotive legends as the RX7 and RX8. In the late Eighties Mazda beat the British at their own game with the Lotus Elan-inspired Mazda MX-5, which offered traditional roadster thrills on a budget.
