Bonhams has joined forces with one of Europe’s biggest car museums to stage a new classic car sale – which can be held no matter what the lockdown rules are on the day.
The UK auctioneer will hold a sale at Autoworld in Brussels (above) on Sunday, 6 September, which will be designed either to be held as a live auction or as a behind-closed-doors auction, with bidders able to take part online. Bonhams said that it chose the 250-car museum not only for its easy reach of most of the European market but also because the venue is able to easily incorporate social distancing measures.
Bonhams’ senior specialist for Europe, Paul Darvill, said: ‘We are delighted to partner with one of the foremost motoring museums in Europe for this new initiative. ‘The museum is one of the most recognisable landmarks in Brussels and already a destination for enthusiasts across the region. ‘In keeping with the museum’s reputation for highlighting the unique and the remarkable in the world of automobiles, we are looking forward to offering exceptional motor cars of all eras.’
The museum’s general manager, Sébastien de Baere, said: ‘We’ve held auctions at Autoworld before, but nothing on this scale before. ‘We’ve been re-opened for a week and are already using social distancing at the museum – if it can be done at the auction, we will do it.’
A full auction lot list will be published later.
